Leila is a girl with no roots who relies on her wits to live, by scams and petty theft, a loner, very attractive, constantly shying away from sincere emotions that may make her vulnerable. Franz is an intense but passive man, one who thinks a lot but rarely acts. He dropped out of university shortly before graduating in philosophy, works as a bus driver, locked into a dull life lived in bars with old friends. He only feels strong emotions when he plays poker, usually losing, so much so that he is hounded by Titti (a name totally unsuited to his powerful body) who he owes a fair amount of money. Fate propels Leila and Franz into the midst of a ruthless conflict over a microchip that could ruin a very powerful personage. Secret service agents, some of them crooked, are trying to get their hands on it. In fact, during one of her misdeeds, Leila also inadvertently steels the microchip and is pursued by the agents. She escapes death by the skin of her teeth and finds herself on the night bus asking for help from the driver, Franz, who thinks he is helping a girl who is hiding from a boyfriend she has cheated on. When he realises the trouble he has got into it is too late: he has already been identified as an accomplice and is forced to remain on the run with Leila.
